Chapter 3 Communicating in a World of Diversity

Does Old Navy Communicate to a Diverse World?

Although it has been reported that designers fail to use black models or non white models because people will focus their attention on the model more than the product they are trying to promote.
Most of Old Navy commercials featured a majority of white women and not women of other races which showed how Old Navy was not a diverse company. According to a blog post on racialicious the only black model from old navy is a girl named Nina Keita . In past commercials Old Navy would only use two black persons one male one female along with other white friends and they all would go to a mall or amusement park and in the end they all would be teamed up with the black woman and black man together as if they were forced to be because of their race.
Now while watching a commercial for old navy on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkajRip9zkQ&feature=related in that video they have the model Nina Keita with her love interest being a white male which I think now shows how Old Navy is trying to communicate to the diverse world of fashion.
